Summer Jobs at Cedar Point

It’s funny to me that the last post I wrote was about Cedar Fair Parks. I guess we must have really enjoyed those parks last summer because we ended up right back at Cedar Point this year for over 3 months. I haven’t posted much lately because we haven’t been doing anything new until now. This summer Jake and Jesse both got jobs working at Cedar Point and that was a new and quite wonderful experience.

I can’t even describe how proud I am of these kids doing so well at their first jobs! It was a fabulous experience for both of them.

One really fun thing that Cedar Point does for their employees is hosting regular employee ride nights. The kids really enjoyed those, especially the one that lasted until 3am!

Jake’s team had a photo shoot one day, but unfortunately I don’t have anything like that for Jesse.

Cedar Point was an amazing place to spend the summer. I loved going to the park with the kids when they weren’t working. We stayed at Lighthouse Point Campground right at the park so it was very convenient to walk over to go on rides whenever we felt like it. And the kids could walk to work which was an added bonus!

Last year when we visited the Great Lakes around Michigan I became obsessed with watching ships. This summer was no different in that I continuously kept track of the Marine Traffic App so I could watch the ships coming into Sandusky.

Another thing I became fascinated by during our time on this lake may freak some people out. It was the Lake Erie water snakes. I couldn’t believe how many snakes gather in piles around the rocks by the lake. It was creepy, but also very interesting. If you don’t want to see pictures of snakes, don’t scroll any further…

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 😉

It was so fascinating to watch the snakes swimming with fish in their mouths. One time I watched one swallow the fish whole. On more than one occasion I watched a seagull swoop down and swipe the fish right out of the mouth of the snake.

I’m really not a fan of snakes, in fact I’m actually terrified of them. But for some reason I thought it was so interesting to watch them in their natural habitat.

My parents visited us and we had great time showing them around this beautiful and fun park.

Our nephew Leo came to visit us during Memorial Day Weekend. We had a blast riding all the roller coasters with him.

We also enjoyed a visit with Tom and Kathy for lunch in Sandusky. Chris used to work for Tom several years ago, and it has been a long time since we’ve seen them so it was wonderful to catch up. They are cruise experts and helping us plan our first cruise for later this year.

Celebrating the 4th of July at Cedar Point was awesome! We were able to watch the fireworks from the beach right near our campsite. We generally don’t get out to see fireworks on the 4th because we really dislike getting out in the traffic and crowds. This was the perfect place to be for us to watch fireworks since we didn’t have to drive anywhere.

The sunsets on the lake were pretty beautiful as well.

Something strange happened to me during this season at Cedar Point. I turned into a fearless thrill ride fanatic! I mean I’ve always liked roller coasters, and the coasters at Cedar Point are some of the best of the best. But there are 2 specialty thrill rides that are not included in regular park admission.

At one time I thought these 2 rides looked way too scary and I determined that I would never ride them, even though Jake worked at one of them. For some strange reason, by the end of the season, Jake had convinced me that I should ride them. Here are 2 videos, proof that I actually did it. Enjoy our rides on Slingshot and Fling.

I don’t think we could have picked a better place for our kids to experience their first jobs. Jake is an amusement park fanatic. He would eventually like to get a mechanical engineering degree and design rides and/or amusement parks someday. It is probably time we settle down somewhere soon so that he can go to college and get started on that. We’ve been traveling for nearly 9 years so I guess the time has come to start the next chapter. I don’t know yet what that will look like, but I’ll write about it once we figure it out.
