After leaving Manistique we headed up to the Lake Superior side of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to visit the spectacular Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We started on the east side at Grand Marais and later moved to Munising. While staying at Woodland Park Campground in Grand Marais we enjoyed some amazing sunsets over Lake Superior.

We went on a short hike at the Log Slide overlook on the east side of Pictured Rocks. I should clarify that it wasn’t exactly short for Chris and Jesse though because they chose to make the hike all the way down to the lakeshore. Jake and I stayed at the top and watched them struggle as they made their way back up.

This sign is why Jake and I ended up staying at the top, and apparently they weren’t kidding with this warning. Chris and Jesse are in good physical condition, but this was even a struggle for them.

Ugh, that looked like a miserable climb back up. Jake and I were quite happy we stayed at the top and watched. 😉 To be honest, I was a little concerned while they struggled to get back up to the top, but thankfully they made it and we didn’t have to call for help.
After that they had no energy left for any other exploring so we stopped to see the Grand Marais lighthouse and headed back to the campground.

The beach at our campground had some really cool driftwood structures on the beach and so many colorful rocks.

After a few days in Grand Marais we moved on to the west side of Pictured Rocks in Munising where we hiked to lots of waterfalls and saw some of the most beautiful cliffs along the lakeshore. We were also blessed to meet another Fulltime Family at our campground and enjoyed having some campfires with them.

There sure are a lot of waterfalls in this area!
We went on a Pictured Rocks Cruise which was so incredible, but I need to save that for another post. For now I’ll leave you with a couple of sunset pictures from Grand Marais.

This was sooo beautiful!
